We finished reading “Angels for Kids” by Donna Marie Cooper O’Boyle. This book is a must-read, in my opinion. Without dumbing down our Catholic belief in the angels, Donna Marie Cooper O’Boyle makes our understanding of the angels simple for children to understand. This was a perfect read-aloud in our house, with chapters short enough to read in one sitting after morning prayers. I really enjoyed following up the chapters with discussion to further my kids’ comprehension. Chapter 8 is full of prayers, so we also chose a few prayers throughout the month to begin learning (which we will continue to do all year!). As a read-aloud, it is perfect for 1st grade and up, though my 4 and 5year old boys did sit and listen, and I’m hoping they absorbed more than I can “see”, due to their wiggly nature! 😉 For children to read alone, a strong 2nd grade reader could read it alone, but since it lends itself so well to family discussion, I definitely recommend reading it as a family.
Yesterday Japan launched a satellite that will study global weather patterns. We had the unique opportunity to attend a live viewing at the local space center. It was so awesome! My 7 yr old loves all things related to space, so this was a great opportunity for her to see the launch, and see women involved in the science behind the launch as well. For all the “equality” between sexes, there still are few women who continue work in math and sciences…but that is a topic for some other time. I just know my girl has an interest in space and space sciences, so I want to help her grow in her knowledge. While there, we saw a really neat paper model of the GPM, but the space center was all out of the supplies to make them. Luckily, a quick google search turned up the pdf plans and video instructions! Here it is, if you have a budding scientist, also!
How many of you thrifty people use apps on your smartphone to save money and earn points towards gift cards, shopping credit, etc? I just got a smart phone last fall, so I’m new to the game. But, I’ve been enjoying Ibotta. You basically can earn rebates on things you buy at various stores, such as Target, Wal-Mart, Costco…check it out!
And while we’re talking being thrifty, I want to share a fun website where you can find amazing deals on clothes, brand-name clothes! I have a cart full of jeans right, for up to 75% off the retail price. Head on over to Twice to check that site out. Bonus? You get $10 credit when you sign up, and free shipping over $49. I think that beats actually going to a store ANY day.
Firecracker discovered dirt today. Thankfully, he didn’t eat any.
Last night, I brought home my cookbook from the ladies’ group at church. They look great. I can’t wait to start cooking up some recipes!
For my last post, some thankfulness! (Inspired by my friend Amanda)
I am ever grateful for the amazing love shown to me by my husband. Fence is amazing. I’m blessed!
